Xanadu builds quantum computers out of photons rather than superconducting circuits or trapped ions, an approach that runs at room temperature but loses information whenever light scatters inside a waveguide. The company is based in Toronto. In September 2026 it started work with ASML on whether better lithography can cut those optical losses enough to make fault-tolerant photonic machines practical.
