Vattenfall is the Swedish state-owned utility, headquartered in Solna and generating and selling power across Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. Its German business has been rebuilding around wind, solar and, increasingly, storage.
In September 2026 it took a final investment decision on a 254 MW, 1,000 MWh battery at Brunsbüttel in Schleswig-Holstein, on the site of a nuclear plant being dismantled. The project reuses an existing 380 kV connection to the 50 Hertz grid, which is the scarce asset in German storage development, and is due to run by the end of 2028.
