Sumitomo Electric is a Japanese maker of cables, wiring and industrial materials. In October 2026 it opened a GBP 350 million factory at the Port of Nigg near Inverness, Britain's first plant for 525 kV HVDC subsea export cables and inter-array cables for offshore wind, with over 200 direct jobs and GBP 24.5 million from the Scottish government.
