Posiva is the Finnish company that manages final disposal of spent nuclear fuel, owned by the utilities TVO and Fortum. It built Onkalo, a repository more than 400 metres down in the bedrock at Olkiluoto in Eurajoki. In October 2026 the Finnish government granted Onkalo an operating licence, the first for a final repository of spent fuel anywhere; disposal starts once the regulator STUK signs off its final tests.
