Nuward is the small modular reactor subsidiary of EDF, set up in March 2023 to develop a pressurised water SMR on conventional building blocks. Its design now stands at 400 MW, with an optional cogeneration output of about 100 MWt.
In September 2026 it told the IAEA General Conference in Vienna that it plans an initial fleet of ten units across France, Italy, Poland, Belgium, and Finland. Construction of the first is due to start in 2030, with first power in 2035.
