Novo Nordisk is the Danish pharmaceutical company behind semaglutide, and the dominant force in the global market for GLP-1 obesity and diabetes drugs. Founded in 1923 and headquartered in Bagsvaerd outside Copenhagen, it has spent the incretin windfall buying access to what comes next. In September 2026 it licensed the oral macrocycle platform of Copenhagen neighbour Orbis Medicines in a deal worth up to USD 1.4 billion, taking a strategic equity stake rather than the company.
