Infineon is a German semiconductor maker whose €5 billion Smart Power Fab in Dresden — carrying about €1 billion in EU Chips Act subsidies — opened in July 2026, roughly three months ahead of schedule. It makes the power semiconductors that regulate electricity in AI data centres, EVs and renewable systems, and is the first large Chips Act project to reach working production rather than remain a subsidy headline.
