Great British Energy is the UK's state-owned clean energy company, set up by the Labour government in 2024 with GBP 8.3 billion to own and run clean power projects. It is headquartered in Aberdeen.
By October 2026 its budget had been redirected: GBP 2.5 billion to small modular reactor design and sites, a local power plan cut to GBP 1 billion, and a new Great British Grid unit announced by Prime Minister Andy Burnham to co-invest in the network.
