GlobalFoundries is a contract chipmaker headquartered in Malta, New York, with a large European fab in Dresden. In September 2026 it launched a joint foundry service with Eindhoven's Smart Photonics that flip-chips indium phosphide lasers and amplifiers onto its silicon photonics wafers, aimed at AI data centres, optical transceivers, and lidar. General availability is planned for the second half of 2027.
