Exergy3 is a University of Edinburgh spin-out that raised £10 million in seed funding in 2026 to scale modular thermal energy storage. Its units convert surplus renewable electricity into process heat between 50°C and 1,200°C, targeting high-temperature industrial heat for steel, glass, ceramics and chemicals — a decarbonisation problem heat pumps can't serve. It plans a Munich office to target German industrial markets.
