DeepL is a Cologne company that builds machine translation and writing tools on its own language models. In October 2026 its chief executive, Jarek Kutylowski, argued in Politico that Europe needs its own models and the whole AI value chain, warning that money companies once spent on engineers now flows to model providers, mostly in the US.
