Caudal Energy is a University of Oxford spin-out (formerly Porpoise Power) that closed a £4.3 million seed in May 2026 for tidal power. Its oscillating-foil system is modelled on the tail fins of marine mammals and targets mid-flow sites — most of Britain's tidal resource, but too shallow and variable for conventional rotor turbines. Full-scale testing is planned at Strangford Lough, with commercial deployment targeted for 2028.
