ArianeGroup is the Franco-German launch vehicle prime formed in 2015 as a joint venture between Airbus and Safran, responsible for Ariane 6 and for France's ballistic missile programme. It owns MaiaSpace, the reusable small launcher subsidiary it created in 2022, and holds the CNES contract for ASTRE, a preliminary design study for a staged-combustion engine more than twice as powerful as Ariane 6's Vulcain 2.1. In August 2026 it decided against dissolving MaiaSpace after the subsidiary's equity went negative.
